A Little History

Worfield Village Hall was the idea and also funded by the Reverend Robert Cecil Harwood Evans and was built on land donated by Mrs Morrisson of Wyken. The hall’s first season was in 1913 and was used by the men of Worfield to meet up after work for a cup of tea.

During the First World War it became a Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital. VAD’s were founded in 1909 with the help of the Red Cross and the Order of St John. By 1916 there were 8000 trained nurses and 126,000 beds countrywide.  Agatha Christie, Emelia Earhart and Hattie Jaques were all VAD nurses.
